The Club Directors have agreed that obituary notices for Club Members will now appear in the private ‘Members Only’ area of the website.  Members can obtain a password to access this page from Ron Marshall, Club Secretary or via the message box at the bottom right of the page.  Information will continue to be posted on the Club noticeboard.

Saturday 30th September Gents Prizegiving & Closing Day Dance

The last Game of the season saw 3 rinks of players enjoying a final game of bowls with hospitality rounding off the afternoon’s play. 

This was followed in the evening by the Gents Section Prizegiving.  Trophies  were  presented by President Andy Ewart,  and new Gents Champion Stewart Fleming said he was thrilled to win this trophy. He thanked opponent Gordon Shanks for making it a close and nail biting end to the Championship.   He also spoke of a superb match against Dad Alex Fleming,  and thanked Andy for all his hard work this year. 

An excellent dance followed to round off the evening and the season.

                              Thursday 29th September – Ladies Prizegiving    
The Ladies Section Prizegiving was hosted this year by Ladies Past President Evelyn Rhind.  President Andy Ewart, Past President/ Umpire Brian Leighton and Greenkeeper Peter Brown  joined over 40 ladies for the event.

President Andy congratualated the Ladies Section on a successful season and thanked them for all the work they do in support of the club.  He made a special mention of Pairs Team Anne Ford & Rena Thomson / Elizabeth Marshall,  who qualified for Northfield this year.  The team was presented with a special gift in recognition of their achievement.    
He then presented the Trophies and Ladies Champion Janet Faskin, thanked all her opponents and everyone who had entered the competitions this year.  More photos  in the Gallery (or click here)

George Rodgers will be back with his popular Jazz Night on
Friday 3rd November.

Holiday/Charity Game – Monday 26th September

The last holiday game of the season was a great success.   42 bowlers enjoyed some of the best weather we’ve had this year.  The final was very close and results were as follows-
Winners –  Etta Milligan, Michael Smyth & Anne Tunn (Skip)
Runners UpMargaret Manderson, Ron McIntosh and Jacky Gray (Skip).

£200 was raised and the charity chosen to benefit this year by President Andy Ewart is Marie Curie Nurses.
A big thanks to Brian Leighton and the Seniors Committee who do a great job in organising these Holiday Games and to the Ladies who prepare and serve the food.  It’s very much appreciated.

 16th September Ladies Past Presidents Day

The Ladies Section held their annual Past Presidents day this weekend and welcomed nine former Lady Presidents –
  Margaret BallantyneJanet Faskin, Ann Leighton, Lillian Johnston, Rena Thomson, Marion Mungall, Evelyn Rhind, Pat Robertson and Anne Wardlaw.
Six Triples teams played on the day and the game  was won convincingly by
Mary McCabe, Cathy McKinnon and Jean Fleming.
The ladies then sat down to a lovely meal prepared by the Committee.
Marion Mungall, on behalf of all the Lady Presidents thanked the Committee for the very enoyable day and lovely meal.

6th September – Ladies Invitation Tournament
The Ladies section held their popular September tournament this week.  96 ladies enjoyed a great day’s bowling to round off the season.  The scores were tight for the 4 teams going into the semi-final, but the day was won by Mount Vermon Team – Alison Noon, June Fotheringham, Eva Johnstone and Annette MacKenzie.   Runners up were Airdrie and Semi-Finalists were Chryston and Springwells.
Uddingston Ladies Section would like to thank all our visiting teams for supporting the event  and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Shaw Cup Finals – Results

The final of the Shaw Cup was held this week
(Monday 21st August).

16th August – Senior Mixed Fours Invitation Results

Once again, the Senior Gents Mixed Fours Invitation Tournament was a great success.  A full complement of 96 players enjoyed a great day’s bowling, despite some heavy showers.   Congratulations to go to the winning team from Baillieston and  to the Uddingston Runners up.  Well done also to the Semi-Finalist  (East Kilbride) B.MacDonald, R.Young, A.McDonald, & M.MacKay and (Uddingston) E.Marshall, B.Leighton, A.Leighton & R.Marshall.

Thanks to everyone who participated and made the day such a success.  Also  to John Morris and the Senior Gents Section who did a great job organising the day.  More photos in the Gallery.

13th August Nominated Mixed Pairs Results

Formerly the ‘Married Couples’ competition, 12 teams took part on Sunday 13th August.
Congratulations to the top two teams who were –

They now go though to the final which will be held during Gents Finals Week.


10th July Monklands Seniors League – Final Position

The popular Seniors Monklands League played their last game of the season this week.  Uddingston finished a respectable 4th in Section 4,  with 26 points after 24 games.  The top teams in each of the 4 sections now go forward to the semi final stage.  Click here for full details.

Important – First Aid Information

Please  be aware of the following changes

  • Kitchen First Aid Box –  there is a new box in the Kitchen (specifically for catering/kitchen users)
  •  General First Aid Box – there is a new general box  on the wall just outside the Office.
  • De-Fibrillator – this has been moved to a better location on the wall outside the Boardroom.
  • Several new First Aiders have recently been trained and appointed and Eric Crainey now has the lead role for First Aid in the Club.
  • Please familiarise yourself with the names of the First Aiders – see Members Only Section and there is a list of names  above the First Aid box outside the office.

9th August-  Senior Gents Pairs Results

The Senior Gents Section held their Pairs Competition on the above date (postponed from June).
Well done to the two top pairs who will go forward to play the final on Seniors Final Day : 

Joe Ford & Willie Daley   and    Don Bell & Alan Slater. 


5th August – Ladies Nomination Triples Results

The Ladies section held their Triples events this weekend, despite having to run for cover several times due to heavy rain showers. Congratulations to the winning team –
Peggy Bryson, Margaret Ballantyne & Moira Waddell.
Also well done to close runners up  Mary Morris, Vi Maxwell & Janet Faskin.
The Ladies section would like to thank Mango Optical for once again sponsoring this event.

The Gents held the above Competition today
        The day was a great success and was won by
Brian Magowan, Don Bell and Iain Charlton.
Runners Up were David French, George Thompson & John McLaren.

The Senior Gents held the above Competition today.

2nd August Ladies Triples Team Lanarkshire Semi-Final – Update
Our ladies Triples Team (E.Ewart, R.Thomson & A.Ford) played at Baillieston today but unfortunately lost to Overton & Waterloo.  They played well but heavy rain made it difficult for all the players.   But well done to the team for a great effort and for getting though to this stage of the competition.
The team would like to thank President Andy and all those from the club who came to support them.

For information, the LWBA finals will be held on Wednesday 9th August at Shotts BC.

  26th July – Ladies Pairs Team – Northfield Update
      
 Elizabeth Marshall and Anne Ford  played in the Pairs Competition today (Wednesday 26th July) at the National Championships at Northfield, Ayr.  Unfortunately they lost by just 1 shot.

They played valiantly in attrocious conditions but were just pipped at the post.   Well done to both Elizabeth and Anne for a great effort !

 11th July  – District 26 Singles Final 2017 – Won by Martin Murray  

 Many congratulations and well done to Martin Murray who won the District 26 Singles Title at Stonehouse on Tuesday 11th July.   District 26 President Jim Bell presented Martin with his trophy.

3rd July –  Gents Pairs Team win Lanarkshire Pairs Title !

Our Gents Pairs Team – David Warnock and Alex Fleming  won the Lanarkshire Pairs Final today (Sunday 3rd July) at Garrowhill BC against Blantyre.  Club President Andy Ewart, Secretary Ron Marshall, Treasurer Elizabeth Marshall,  and a good contingent of friends and members were there to support the players.
President Andy would like to congratulate David and Alex on their convincing win.  He added that they had won through 5 previous rounds to get to the final and the Club is extremely proud of their achievement.

1st August –  Ladies v Senior Gents  Annual Friendly   

The Ladies Section were ‘guests’ of the Senior Gents today in their annual friendly match.  There was a great turnout with 48 players enjoying great bowls and lovely weather.  Gents took a back seat  and all teams were skipped by the Ladies!  

Vi Maxwell on behalf of the Ladies Section, thanked the Seniors for the lovely tea after the game and promised to return the hospitality next year !

Well done to the overall winners were Andy Byrne, Ron Marshall & Mary Morris who kindly donated their winnings to Charity.   More photos in the Gallery or Click here 

18th July – Greens/Grounds Update    

Summer Maintenence continues on the Bowling Greens this week.  Our contractors (Aitkens) were out today scarifying the bowling greens, followed by a liquid feeding and watering.  In addition, the greens are cut every day (Monday – Friday) by our Greenkeeper and automatic watering sprinklers kick in each night.
Also this week, the large trees behind the Tennis Courts were trimmed back by Tree Surgeons to stop branches falling onto the courts and all the hedges around the club were cut.
Finally, a big thanks to our Gardening Team Volunteers from the Senor Gents Section who have been doing a superb job planting the flower beds and boxes,  cutting the grass around the greens and keeping the whole area looking tip-top on an ongoing basis.   It’s much appreciated by all!

16th July – Mango Holiday Game  – Update

As usual, this year’s Holiday Game was  a thoroughly enjoyable and competitive day. The final was a very close match with ‘Peels’ going into the last end.  Well done to both finalists and eventual winners
May Gribbons, Moira Waddell/Margaret Manderson and Iain Charlton.
